We can always tell a happy cat with its litter box, the following way:
The cat enters the litter box one step at a time, chooses the right spot, digs a little hole and does his business. When he has finished his business, he inspects the excrement and usually covers it with care.
The behaviour of an unsatisfied cat is very different from a satisfied one:
The cat will approach his litter box with hesitation; he will usually try to find a spot that is cleaner, while shaking its paws to get rid of unpleasant substances that would stick to them. When ready to do its business it becomes shy, low ears and is tense.
There are different reasons that may be the cause of this behavior:
Where the litter box is positioned or placed in your Home, (i.e.: too visible or too hidden), A litter box that would be too small or too large for your cat, a cover over the litter box, a litter box cleaned with products that will cause strong chemicals odors, not enough litter in the box or poor quality cat litter… To make sure your cat wants to use the litter box again, you must make it attractive to him and create its natural environment***. Its cleanliness and accessibility are important facts.
Avoid using perfumed cat litters, litters with neutralizers etc…. All you need to clean a litter box is water and a small quantity of vinegar which will neutralize bad odors that are unpleasant to you and your cat.
Products that contain ammoniac will only accentuate the bad urine odors just like perfumed cat litter which repulses cats and will make them stop using their litter box.
The material, odor, the shape and even the color of the litter box could be reasons why the cat will accept or refuse the litter box.
After many appreciation tests, it seems that CATSENS is without a doubt the favourite cat litter to cats as most cats prefer fine clumping granulate which recreates a natural environment for them as if they were free to go outdoors.. If some cats carry some litter out of the box the litter, you may use a mat designed to that effect.
Do not forget! Cats are creatures of habit; less change they have the less confused they are… If you have more than one cat, it is strongly recommended to use one litter box per cat. They do not like to share their privacy with others…they can also be stressed if the litter box is placed too close to their food and water..They do not like to eat and do their business at the same place…
Cats enjoy and prefer if you place the litter box in a quieter area..
